There is really only one electronics book worth reading for the gifted science amateur/ post grad attempting to start in analogue or digital electronics. The classic book is "The Art of Electronics", by Paul Horowitz and Win Hill. It is THE best electronics book bar none. We use it all the time at work, and thats together with our main 5000 volume electronics/engineering library
