you solved my problem, here is what i found in the cport help library:

property OnClose: TNotifyEvent;

Description
Write OnAfterClose event handler to take specific action after serial port is successfully closed using Close method or Connected property. If closing of serial port fails, OnAfterClose event is not triggered.
Cport library not bad after all!!!!
