like erik says use the search feature, and
check out mr. asim khan's programmer. that is supposed to be great.

incase you really, really have to design your own programmer then see the datasheet for the ATMEL at89c51. the pin numbers, programming algorithm is given very clearly.

Mentioned in a remote corner of the datasheet: "Erase the chip before programming" or something quite similar to that!! I was sure for a week that my design was flawed!!
