CLEAN POWER / COEXISTING MACHINERY
================================== We're making a slim-line model o ou product and are looking to toss some of the bulkier components. This means we can redo the DC/DC converter!!!! :-) I'm looking for some good ideas to improve my 8051 power supply that converts +12..+60vdc into +5vdc @ 3.0 amps. The source has a lot of machinary induced voltage noise on it; overvoltages, dropouts and reversals. I use old LM2576HVs with a 1 inch tall inductor (PE92108K) and I want to replace this arrangement with a switcher and filter that will fit in our new slim-line aluminum package. I need components that fit within 0.5 inch height constraints. Our product runs passively at under 0.7 amps but cranks up to 2.2 amps when reporting alarm conditions. The LM257X/LM259X are under consideration even though they accept lower input voltages than we've previously specified. Maybe some other company has a solid solutions we should look at? I'm looking at the CAD models contemplating a separate modular board for the DC/DC converter. This will allow us greater flexibility to match a customer's environment. I wear many hats in the company, but I never try to wear the analog engineer's title. You got some advice or fresh ideas for us? -Jay C.
