are you driving the motor in half step or full step mode?
You can achieve higher speeds and higher torque if you drive the motor in full step mode but your step angel would be doubled. This should be no problem if you need speed.
I guess you can switch between full step and half step while the motor is running but I never tried it this way, you try it and let us know.
