The ones which are important are:-

9-pin 2,3 and 5

25-pin 2,3 and 7

2 should go to 3
3 should go to 2

pin 7 on the 25-pin should go to pin 5 on the 9-pin

2 and 3 are TX and RX if you have pin 2 going to pin 2 and pin 3 going to pin 3 you have TX going to TX and RX going to RX which is incorrect.

swap those two around, and it should work.
