I agree that learning the assembly language would be a big plus. However I started with the BASIC language and it served me quite well as I could use a compiler to compile it into assembly code and the structure of BASIC made it a lot easier for starters.

However, it does save a lot of time and you do understand the way things work a bit better with assembly lanquage.

Bottom line is I recommend using whatever is easiest for you in the beginning and then learn what is more difficult for you later, unless of course you have plenty of time to spare.
