#32447 - RE: Keil uVision2 and Nohau Emulator
<html>
I would not use the advanced capabilities of either platform if you can avoid it, to keep your test code portable.
The last 8051 project I worked on, we had both available, and I wound up writing all the test code in C (and rewriting all the C flight code in assembly, for timing). It became useful when I found the uV2 coverage analysis to be unfriendly (at least at that time it was; what I wanted was a full report for all modules displayed with the source code). I modified a freeware 8051 simulator that ran under Unix to output address trace information and filtered this to provide coverage reports. If I had used the uV2 test support extensively I don't think it would have been so easy.
We couldn't get the Nohau to step through the program when running on the target. It would take off running and wouldn't stop, but I guess that is not usually a problem, or they wouldn't be selling many units. Maybe it had something to do with the circuit design for our board (which worked OK, except for that; 40 MHz FPGA feeding PROM and I/O to the 8051). Nohau support was supportive, gave us multiple units to try out, but we never found the problem.
