#32480 - RE: 8052.COM MOVES TO NEW SERVER |
"The new server seems more slow, at least to me. Frequent "time out" occurs while browsing."
The move will affect everyone differnetly depending on where they connect from and how/where their ISP is connected to the Internet. From Mexico I've found the server to be about 10% slower than the previous while some visitors from the UK have reported it being 30% faster. I did quite a bit of speed testing before I chose to move the server by doing pings to the addresses from which users were visiting the site. I found the difference to be minimal in most cases--but some pings were faster with the new server while other pings were slower... it just depended on where the user and/or his ISP was. That said, I just pinged the IP address from which you posted your message and I'm getting 4.5 second ping times from both the new and old server. Since the ping times should be between 40-100ms, the fact that both servers are returning a 4500ms ping time for your IP address is very strange. However, the ping times look to be the same for both servers. But with ping times that high I'm not surprised you're getting timeouts. According to a traceroute, the real bottleneck occurs between sms.co.uk and your IP address. The ping time is 100ms when it hits sms.co.uk but is at 4500ms when it hits your IP address--that suggests to me a problem between those two points. Regards, Craig Steiner |
