Idle mode is also useful in applications where the 8051 is waiting around 90% of the time for some particular thing to happen. This "event" can be hooked to the external INTERRUPT pin and this can cause the CPU to resume. This wait mode can reduce the average EMI from a circuit board, particularly if external RAM and/or FLASH are used.
