I believe the ATA command will allow the modem to answer your call, and the ATO command will originate. You should find these somewhere on the net. You will also need to know the command to limit or force your modem into 202 mode, if it is capable. But other than that I think what you want to do is possible AND logical cheap method of testing before you buy or move to a different area, ASSUMING that your setup is legal to connect to POTS.
