And a co-worker of mine about 14 years ago (The famous Jeff Johnson with whom I worked and created the also famous, in DOS days, XTREE file manager program) used to call C language a "glorified assembly language with lots of cool macros". He also said NO ONE should ever be permitted to write in C until they demonstrated a respectable proficiency in assembly language on the same processor platform.

There may be some good truths in those comments from almost 1.5 decades ago !!!
