Nearly all '52 have a data bus (except the super small ones), that's how an external eprom is connected. It is only in the last couple of years that we mere mortals, without access to internal mask ROM variants have been able to have internal ROM and easy programming, before that we always lost two ports to the external AD bus

Hang the MT8880 on the bus if you want to. Its easy enough.
