I think that much depends upon the compiler and the approach of the optimizer once it is invoked.
It is my opinion that the code could, and possibly should, be optimized out by a good compiler. I don't know what Keil does (I have it somewhere but never have used it), but I'll test it on IAR and Tasking to see what happens. |
