I scanned last night but didn't find what I was looking for... I did find some interesting reading though. I assume that you are looking for the most simple way of doing it. Regarding elevation, I doubt that the ears alone can detect. The only audio clue I could think of would be a ground bounce delay imperceptable except maybe as a reverb affect that clues us to look up. I think sight and experience are mostly used for elevation. You could experiment by asking a blind person to estimate the position of an electronic beeper. You should require them not to turn their head, beep the beeper once, and ask them to respond by pointing at where they think the source is. It may be revealing enough if they never point upward or downward - be careful not to reveal that you are looking for how they estimate elevation as you would be clueing them in to guess. hmmmm, that would be an interesting experiment. -Jay C.
