Hi..
I Think you can do it, the pulse will be generated by timer interrupt, and you do your thing with 555, connect its input to T0 or T1 or whatever, and the output to the reset. just for you to know, if you get the MCU to hang, so your design is not correct (hardware or software), the 8051 should never hang, if you want it to stop, just LOOP IT.
