reason for those ports is simply that this little board I have, is made by person who left only ports 0 and 2 for interfacing outside. So I desided, before I make a new PCB, is better to get familiar with some features so I can design it wisely.

And what comes to the code, I just tested it, no matter which way it is written, the result is the same.

I appreciate your advice and fix that to look like the LCD-tutorial shows.
