Dont you think that trying to grab images with a 8052 + FPGA combo appears to be too much of a bother ? And then comes the process of the image recognition - in all it looks a little outside the domain of a 8052 ?

Maybe Victor has the hardware already and has to proceed as indicated by you. But just for information will this not be a good project for a PC104 type of card - one of those single board CPU modules - and I am sure a frame grabber add-on must be there.
