I have not used that specific part. The data sheet probably shows "Preliminary" [even though it is at Version 2.1 (7.2002)] because there is some operational detail about the chip or it packaging that is not completely final yet. For example in the spec for the ADC the "Offset Temperature Coefficient" is listed as TBD.

The part is ready and available judging from the available inventory showing from www.digikey.com.
