Depending on how much the module "hides" from you, you hopefully shouldn't need to get too concerned with the details of the Bluetooth protocol - just like you don't need to know the details of V.90 to use a PSTN modem, or the GSM air-interface to use a GSM "modem".

However, there is no escaping the fact that you are going to have to read the Manual for your module.
You should also visit the manufacturer's website and check for app notes, reference designs, example code, etc, etc, etc - all good, standard stuff!
