i'm not a PID expert, but to take action for such overflows, I think you're doing some sort of control beside PID.

If you just determine the parameters and let PID to take control, it may overflow. If you override the PID control once it overflows, then you're not doing PID control. And cannot know further behavior of the system.

am i wrong?
