This is actually what I am doing for my thesis. The project is almost finished, I am just putting the parts together.

My project is designed more for blind than low sighted people. When a barcode is scanned in the first time (by a sighted person) a message is recorded. After that message is recorded, the next time the barcode is scanned into the device, the message is played, identifying the object.
