yes, clear first the appropriate interrupt pending flag !!!
Such a sequence should be used, whenever an interrupt was enabled.

Also, if the external interrupt was entered, its recommend to check, if the pin was still low, to eleminate short noise spikes.
Then wrong 0xFF was also suppressed.
But 0x20 sounds still inexplicable.
