that the price you pay removing sync signals. RS-232 not sticks to asyncs only, there is a flow some flow contral system both software(XON/XOFF) and hardware(RTS/CTS). its a quasi synchronous transfer. a baud is tranfsred sync but each bit of baud uses async method.
