That test system you bought may be confusing you.

IAP (ISP) is very simple. You do not have to write any of the software for sending or receiving. You only need the downloading program that is correct for the manufacturer of the 89c51rd2... if you build your own system. All it requires is serial communication to a PC, and setting some pins during reset.
