I am not a hardware engineer and so my question is probably very basic.

I tried to simply connect LEDs to Port 1 on an 8051 Development Board but only one lit. This was tried with a 220R resistor and with no resistor. I then assumed I would need something like a ULN2803 Darlington Array but again no joy.

How should I interface to the port on the 8051? I simply want some LED indication of the state of the port.
