I would recommend reading the data sheet for the particular 8051 variant. If you happen to have a part with a double-buffered uart, the second read will not be the same as the first.
I haven't seen a double-buffered uart in the 8051s I have worked with, but have seen it on an AVR (discovered the hard way of course). There are too many 8051 derivatives out there to make an assumption that all uarts are the same. Dennis |
