#51536 - Oscillator vs. Crystal vs. Resinator
Hi,

I searchd first, but have not found the proper info.

I have an application that require some pretty precise timing. I am using a P89LPC932 which is a 2-clock 8051 from Philips. The device has a 7.373Mhz clock built-in...an RC network I believe. However, it seems to me that the measurement time using onboard timer has some variation to it.

First question: Would using an external device give better accuracy andor precision?

Second question: Is there a general rule of thumb for using Crystal vs Osc (or resignator)? Is one more accurate than the other generally?

Thank You
Javier
