You can always do the doubling with a precision op-amp and a couple of resistors, but now the uncertainty of precision is dictated by the temp co of the op-amp and thermal shifts in the Rs. If your error budget will stand it, go for it otherwise you might be being penny-wise but pound (dollar) foolish.
