#53456 - RE: New replacement for 8749??
Responding to: ???'s previous message
I appreciate all the responses to my question about the
8749 chips. I was hoping to find a new version that would
be pin compatible with the original as to avoid the use
of small adapter boards or a complete redesign of the
board. These chips were used extensively in the old
Heathkit HERO 2000 robots (eleven with the arm option).
The early version of the chips had mask programmed code
in them and after an update they started using 8749 type
so type could be erased and reprogrammed. I am in a spot
now where I could use a replacement so I can update any
robots with the older firmware. They were used as servo
controllers for each motor, one for the RF remote console,
and another for the sonar system.

I am at the point where I may need to make a new batch
of arm controller cards (uses up to five 8749's) and if I
have to I could alter the design to use a different chip
but would rather keep it the same as all the rest.

If you are curious about the HERO 2000 you can check out
my webpage about the HERO's below:

In the event I have to switch anyone know of a good
disassembler for the 8749 or where the conversion progs
might be?

Regards,

Robert
