Futaba makes two kinds of displays serial and parallel.
If your display is parallel, you could connect it to a 8052 family uProcessor via one of the 8 bit ports.
Michael gave you a link to Noritake in the previous link. That site has some free code that will also work on the Futaba VFD, since they are 99.9% compatible with each other.
