#53674 - RE: PCB-Pool
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Am i allowed to know why not US based.
I'm risking this thread to be closed abhishek, but I will answer you.
Have you tried to order anything hi-tech from the us?
If you are located outside the US try it and you will know why!
I fixed a CNC machine that is used for educational purposes in a local jordanian university, I prepared a long list of parts and contacted the machine builder in USA, they were very helpful and gave me customer support that helped me find faults quickly. When I placed my order and they knew my address they replied they were sorry and they can't sell CNC parts to this side of the world! (probably afraid we make weapons of mass distruction)I told them this CNC machine was donated to that university by the USA government in 1992, it broke and I need to fix it for them to make some money for myself. They said they will try their best to get export license for these parts,, 1 month later I got this reply from them:
Sorry we couldn't get export license for you, here are addresses in europe that might be able to help you. I contacted these addresses and their prices were 6 to 10 times more expensive than the original quote I got from the states(probably added some commissions) and they didn't sell discrete components, just complete boards. So I seasrched the web and found a great company in uk that sold me the parts.
The problem with that company is that they sell complete boards and not single components as in the USA, my profit was cut down by 1000 pounds.
The good news is that I have the old board on me so that I can take spare parts from it if the machine breaks again in the future.
I also used to order microcontrollers and electronics parts from some US companies like DIGI-KEY, after placing the order they used to send me email what am I going to do with the parts, they also send my boss at the company same email and we have to explain to them the reason for buying the parts, then they would agree, this was long before SEP the 11th incident.
I don't know about the new situation now, but anyway I just started to order from RS or Farnel or local shops and I get my components delivered to me by DHL.
I'm sure alot of non us people faced same difficulty when ordering electronic components from the states, I hear alot on the news that the us government encourages the free trade worldwide, if this was the case why put alot of restrictions on imports and exports from the states.
After all , americans are a mixture of everybody else on the plannet and all the technology they aquired belongs to all people, it is not fair to block rest of the world from buying it.
