i am using low voltage atmel chip 3V max. do u mean it can be done directly connected to the MCU without using an additional lcd driver circuit??

for Twist Nematic(TN) LCD, i have search the net but haven come across any project being done using 8051 architect. but there is a lot for other types of lcd

btw my TN LCD is customed made 7 segment type, control is done via elastomer strips. if u know wat i mean. so there will be only a port available to connect to the LCD and some free pins
