That's my very individual experience with 80C552, but I don't want to talk for others.
May be the time has come to make a next try with micros having an internal ADC...

The real problem with uCs with internal ADCs is to keep the digital noise out of the analog. To use an internal ADC and gain a precision of better than 8 bits you need a doctorate in PCB layout.
