Andy, the 'brochure' on the LPC9xx states that it can drive LEDs directly. While I, as many others bitch about Philips aking you to try out chips before they fully document them, I would not worry about up to 20mA per pin while staying within the 100mA total since it is listed both under maximum and DC operational.
