Did u initialize the LCD before any operations.


WriteCommandLCD(0x20); //execute command
WriteCommandLCD(0x0F); //execute command

0x20 will initialize the LCD.... while 0x0F will set he LCD in 4 bit mode if you want to use 4 pins of the LCD data. NOW LCD is ready to operate. send SET LOCATION commands and then send characters..
