Hmm, it looks like the display is comprised of a Winstar (http://www.atel.ru/winstar.htm) LCD paired with a Phillips PCF2119 LCD controller/driver, and that's what gives you the IIC interface. Now that's got me wondering what other display subsystems might use the Phillips controller...
