Kai:
I did some direct work with the Philips Corporate Design group in Eindhoven about 5 years ago. I was interfacing a Philips manufactured remote control to am OEM version of a video conferencing system. They had internal documents for the RC/6 protocol that I was using at the time (RC/6 is an upgrade from RC/5 but has more bits). We had paper copies of the specs at that time that were received under a signed NDA (non disclosure agreement). They were rather fussy about ensurung that these specifications did not get "distributed". Needless to say, since I am no longer with the vid conf company I no longer have this paperwork. So I believe that most people that are decoding RC/5 or RC/6 are doing it by experimental data garnered either from a DSO or from somebody elses DSO work and posted to a web site. For normal usage I believe that the DSO type information is as good as or better than the Philips specification data. The biggest advantage of the Philips specifications is that they contain tables of the approved stanard button codes for a whole bunch of types of equipment. There were also some tables identifying the equipment classification codes too. I have derived the decoding algorithm for at least a half a dozen IR remotes through the DSO capture and study scheme!! You are best off to do the DSO capture at the transmitter end and see the exact timing as opposed to at the IR receiver which distorts the timing. Michael Karas |
