Hi Don,
Seems like the 1N4001 would be to slow. A faster diode
would be a better choice. You also have a lot of
resistors to take into consideration. After you get a
working circuit how much would it cost compared to the
present price of the LB1256? How about size? Could you
working circuit fit inside of the space presently used by
the LB1256 IC?
