#57689 - RE: SMART vs Others Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hello Babar,
The "smart" in smartcard refers to the use of a secure microcontroller. 'Dumb' cards consist only of memory, which may or may not be secured by a hardware control section. This type of card is commonly used for e.g. payphones, access control and suchlike. The use of a microcontroller allows for much more flexibility and better security. This type of card is therefore used for e-purse and credit card applications. Best regards, Rob Klein. |
