Folk that's all real confusing. As an "hobbiest" as I understand When you convert non-multidrop rs232 to rs485 with the driver chips then it becomes multi drop, how ??

don't we have still the same realities here in this type of converted rs485 also that limit the 232 from being multidrop.

Is it because now in this type of converted rs485 we use RTS to control the trasnmit enable to avoid collision. Couldn't we use RTS to prevent simultaneous data tranmission in rs232.

To me the rs485 converted from rs232 is still rs232 except that its range has grown. But then why also it becomes multidrop, still haunts my mind to be cleared.
