Yes,,,,,but another attribute of this parallel bit processing for the inputs is the the capture/queueing of the 0->1 and 1->0 transitions of the inputs. This is a very useful function that makes it quite easy for an asynchronous main loop in a program to detect changes on the port bits on a simple interrogation basis by calling one of the support routines that are included in the referenced full source code link.
