I use Orcad and have not had any problems with it.
I didn't use the earlier versions, I started out with
Orcad Version 7.1, so I cannot verify the experiences that Kai had with Orcad. I do know that it is pricey, but it is a professional tool. The design rule check still exists, but as a warning only, it still allows you to route the board.
