Are You talking about matched/tuned pair? if yes you can use a 555 timer to excite the transmitter at the freq at which the receiver responds . Ranging meters are plenty on the web but you will have to devote your time searching them . I would suggest you buy some local kit from some electronic hobby shop near you and after you are confidant with that you can make some improvements in that .
