Chris:
How much did you pay for this thing? If you spent over $80 USD I would suggest you try to return it and buy a more modern eval board that supports a microcontroller with on-board FLASH. First off the development experience will be far more pleasant and you would be gaining experience with equipment and parts that are mainstream and in ready supply today looking forward. One example of a low cost board for modern development is here. You can look here to see an idea how easy it is to connect additonal circuits to this dev board. On the other hand if you got this thing for the likes of $10 or something AND if your intention is to use it mainly for a learning experience then here is what you can do. Obtain the data sheets for all the parts on the board and read them all to gain a familarity of how each of the parts work. Then using your schematic you can annotate with any notes needed to figure out how the board itself works. Another way to extend this experience even further would be to re-draw new schematics using a schematic CAD package. In the re-drawing you can take your new knowledge of all the parts and make a schematic you can read. Once again it is my opinion that if you are going to put energy into learning things it is best to look at the latest stuff. A design such as this board with an 8032 (NMOS part) and several 8255's is an old fashioned implementation and will have limited applicability to any future product design you may hope to do one day. If it is a total hobby then by all means then have at it!! Michael Karas |
