The problem is killed - finally could manage to make them accept to go in for the driver chip. The PCB has gone for redesign - in fact they were fighting tooth-n-nail just to avoid this eventuality. But when they saw the improvement with a temporary patch up with driver chip hardwired, they silently accepted!
