#62257 - RE: Breadboard Numbers Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I initially only intended to claim that the capacitance issue (at least for 8051 bus speeds) was overstated. Then I overstated the reliability issue, and I'm sorry. In many cases they "worked perfectly" only once, just long enough to prove the concept. I always use pad-per-hole perf when I intend a project to last more than a week; but until recently this thread was about electrical characteristics. Electrically, I don't see a real distinction between the two.
I should have mentioned that the breadboard needs to be in good condition, and continue to be cared for. It's been many decades since I had to share parts and tools with other students; and almost as many since I threw away the ones of my own that I had abused. I have destroyed my share of contacts with oversized or contaminated leads. Sharing a workbench with other students makes a strong case for soldering everything. Now, I use a breadboard only if I'm trying out something 'new' (and low speed) and I expect major changes. Most times I go straight to etch. |
