again I've been too hasty... (definitely not my day today). I've overlooked the formatting error in the tutorial where an instruction-line has been appended to a comment.

PUSH  ACC           ;Save A for low nibbleORL DATA,#0F0h ;Bits 4..7 <- 1

Besides that I have the impression that something is wrong in the routine of the tutorial as the niBBle ;-) to be sent ends up in the low order bits, whereas the tutorial states that the lines of the high-order bits have been connected to the display. (I did not verify this and just had a brief look at all of it, so I may be wrong!).
