How will the device know what address it needs if it cannot demux it from the AD bus ? Its GOT to have AS tied to ALE !

Then all you do is assert CS and write/read a location with MOVX

IF the RTC is the only peripheral on the bus, you can use any address in the form XXXN where XXX can be anything you like and N is the address of the appropriate register in the device.
