My doubt is if the target starts b/w the 2 steps there is possibility of an error of abt 1.8 deg for a half stepping.since i would want to have an accuracy of upto a .5 deg.

I hence assume that your motor has 100 steps/revolution ie 3.6 deg per step. If you need an accuracy better then 0.5 degrees you should either look for a stepper with a step smaller than or equal to .5 degrees/step or you could use a reduction gear.

Or you could use something else to measure the angle.

By the way, what will happen if your stepper motor slips (for whatever reason..)... will you notice?
